The moment you started everyone will know you have a kid, and then you'll look like you were hiding it.
I'd advise honesty, and if it's supposed to happen it will.

I meant in response to the "what have you been doing the last few months" question, specifically. Not mentioning your new-born child is going to look pretty bad when they find out, for instance you have to make an emergency trip home due to baby's illness.

No need - we have a woman to do all the child rearing stuff - it's a given

I'm sorry, but I'll make no apologies for this

Definitely mention it if asked - maybe even if not. Lots of people like babies.
As for whether they'll bin you because of it - if it's a high-pressure long-hours project then maybe, but only a minority of contracts are like that.

No need to mention the child specifically, just say that the time off was to have a growth removed plus recuperation.

This way you're not lying, just being unspecific

                  Note 1. Obviously I'm joking
Note 2. I would never seriously refer to your new baby as a "growth"
                  Note 3. Best of luck!

If you can keep the two seperate then its none of their business
If you think you might have to take sudden and unplanned time away from the contract then it would be polite to warn them

Agreed, no point lying and I am proud of being a Mum now anyway.
