I have never been asked this in an interview I have a 5 month gap on my CV from last year, didnt stop me getting contracts this year.

Hopefully they just won't ask. I usually keep myself to myself for the first month or so of a contract anyway too, so no need to have the babies conversation with anyone. Not that I don't like talking about it, but I remember being childless and bored stiff of baby talk...!

If someone asks why the CV gap you can always mention a "private project which is being developed by other resources at the moment", it's entirely true.

When interviewing women I've always been acutely careful to avoid any mention of children unless they raise the subject first, even then it's a potential horror story with HR.

I hope the interview works out, don't worry about your brain having turned to sludge, worst case you'll be taken for a permie

Thank you - going back to work and leaving my precious boy is hardly making me jump for joy. It's either take a good contract if offered, or gamble and turn it down only for nothing else to come up for months.
