The Jam did it once, but they did not rip off Stevie Wonder (asked to pay royalties) or this small selection of other 'influences'

The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

I think you are losing it to suggest that that any part of uptight was taken and used by Oasis.

Two great albums (Definitely Maybe & What's the Story) and Seven shyte ones

They were, in their hey day (mid to late 90's) a great live band, but in recent years they have been taking the piss.

Another (once) half decent band bites the dust. The real tragedy is that there have been no new bands in recent times, that show any signs of replacing them

I wonder who's going to be playing the big outdoor gigs at Knebworth, Glastonbury, Reading etc. in 5 years time

Sure about that? Back in the days when Oasis were popular, I constantly found myself thinking "Oh, there's Let It Be on the jukebox" only to be cruelly disappointed when it turned into Don't Look Back in Anger

Of course, that song's title was itself an indication that one of them studied a John Osborne play for O Level English... nothing original to see here, move along.

EDIT: actually it may have been one of their other songs - I never really bothered learning to tell them apart or finding out what they were called, as it was all just musically derivative garbage with lyrics at the level of adolescent poetry.

EDIT AGAIN: just found DLBIA on YouTube, and the intro sounds more like it was stolen directly from John Lennon's Imagine. Ho hum.

Definitely had some duff albums in the middle, more recently I thought they'd improved.

As far as big concerts, bizarrely it seems Take That are in the running for best tour this year, somehow they've far more credibility this time round.

In 5 years time... bands you haven't heard of, or maybe a few of today's longer-lived groups like Muse who are big favourites at concerts and have been for nearly a decade now.

Cant stand 'em - wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.
I'm sorry, but I'll make no apologies for this

In other Oasis news, I learned how to play Wonderwall on the guitar today. Not exactly tricky but it's a good song for one guy and an acoustic guitar.

                    Bah.

When the cash runs out, the reunion tour will be back.

Then we'll have another 18 months of their music.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
