What a brilliant idea. Completely remove post counts and instate this. The (invisible) 1000 threshold to prevent sockpuppetry should be enough.

And this is totally like the post count whores IMO. Post count / rep is useful on a forum at times though. The reason for removing post count from LR posts was due to the likes of the counting thread, we want new users to be able to see those whose opinion should be valid by some form of measure of time on here or reputation.

We are considering options, as suggested by boudica and MM, will let you know what we come up with. Any other suggestions welcomed.

              For the third time...

Not sure if vBulletin supports that out of the box, though

                Good solution imo.

As soon as you try to measure anything it misbehaves.

Everyone here knows that mine is the only valid opinion and mo-one else counts. Unless they agree with me.

The 'Money Saving Expert' forum has a different take on the 'rep' idea IIRC...

Posts can be voted to be useful or not - which they've chosen to brand as 'thanked', so you have the post count plus 'thanked x times in y posts'. They also show who thanked/rated them. Not sure that's necessary.

Other forums and social sites have a simple thumbs up/thumbs down (I like this/I don't) symbol next to or below the post, which results in post count plus a positive and negative indicator.

Yes, it's open to abuse - but I think it'd be easy to spot people trying to skew the system, or use sockies.

PS - the simple like/dislike symbol would be the easiest to use - especially if it didn't take you away from the current page/thread, much like the multi-quote button.
