Stupid people and SPECs

I did a lot of motorway driving at the weekend - can't believe the number of people who haven't got the "average" bit mentioned on the sign - they crank it up between each set of cameras then slow down to pass - it is no wonder so many people are getting fined if they are so dim

I have also been doing alot of motorways recently : all I have seen have the right idea.

Most of mine has been midweek : maybe weekend sdrivers are more stupid?

Trains are ok, but it's damned annoying that they have to stick to the track thingies, and can't go where you want. (Excepting derailments ofc)

I ignore the speed limits. As long as you enter and leave on different lanes the cameras do not work. Not many people appear to know that.

I have no problem with people like you who are too important to obey the law racing by in their Torymobiles, it's the daft ones who slam on the brakes to way below the limit when they see the camera then speed up to way above it straight after who think are the grade A bellends. I can (sort of) see why they would do it at a "conventional" camera but not with SPECS

As a side issue - I seriously wonder how many SPECs are actually operational.

Undoubtedly I reckon - I will say nothing about any factor the "offenders" may or may not have had in common either

There was a comment on Radio 4 from someone the other day: "You know times are bad when they stop the complimentary coffee service in 1st Class". I was puzzled by that, then decided he was referring to air travel.

That's another Train drawback - no reliable "live" radio4 or 5 - even on Virgin where they claimed to offer it.

Irony of all was the Virgin trains I used to travel on where they were obviously using a car radio to get the R4 signal - complete with RDS traffic interruptions - on a train! Needless to say no-one on the train or at Virgin had any idea what I was talking about when I offered feedback that part of the reason for going by train was not having to worry about traffic!

Abso-blinking-lutely. It has ever been thus. Saturdays are worse than Mon-Fri and Sundays are hell. Bank Holidays make every thing four times worse.

I hate motorway driving on Bank Holidays.

Except the train doesn't take me door to door, and my car is mercifully free of people trying to deafen themselves with iPods, shouting inot mobiles or (as in one case) squaddies watching a film on a laptop.

and which particular musical cataclysm would you be listening to? Last week I sat on the train opposite a fat middle aged manager type who reached almost orgasmic levels of panting and sighing as he listened to Celine bloody Dion on his i-pod. Now I understand why you can't open the train windows more than a few centimeters; if you could I'd have chucked him out of the train at 150 kmh.

It wouldn't be Celine Dion, don't worry! More likely some kind of indie/rocky stuff - Kings of Leon, Kasabian etc
