I did a lot of motorway driving at the weekend - can't believe the number of people who haven't got the "average" bit mentioned on the sign - they crank it up between each set of cameras then slow down to pass - it is no wonder so many people are getting fined if they are so dim

[smartypants geek mode]
What do they mean by ‘average’?
Do they mean ‘mean’? In which case;
where
Arithmetic mean = AM
Geometric mean = GM
Harmonic mean = HM
AM≥GM≥HM

<substitute smartypants geek for wikipedia smartass mode>And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014 -

GPS enabled speed limiters will be with us soon enough.
Then you'll have to pay for a track day to go fast..."See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."Comment

I ignore the speed limits. As long as you enter and leave on different lanes the cameras do not work. Not many people appear to know that.Comment

PSBloke : Hmm if i could relinquish driving totally on motorways (steering, everything), put my feet up and read the paper that'd suit me fine - no need to worry about all the other loons, no need to be frustrated by being held up by others (or bullied) - motorway driving is blinking boring, no matter how fast you're going
It's one of the joys of Cruise Control.
I can whack it on at 69mph, sit back on the motorway, and chill out comfortably with some music, watching all the loons race by at breakneck speed.
I long for the day when the cars are part of some neural-gps-network thingie, and you just get in, pay for your trip, and get whisked off, safely and pleasantly, whilst you have a snooze, watch HoloTV, play the Z-Box, or whatever.Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

SPECs received Home Office Type Approval for cars changing lanes in 2007.
Also, as that article points out, it was never the case that the cameras "didn't work" if you changed lanes; merely that, until the relevant tests were passed, they could not be used for enforcement purposes in that case.Comment
