The one outside CurrentGaff results in hard braking. There's usually one or two screechings of a weekend too.

The annoying bit is that Plod parks on the zig zags at the crossing when they are faffing with the machine on a Monday morning. This means people cannot see to get out of the estate and have to pull onto the other side of the road blind.

At least the man who does the fortnightly visit from the camera company to clean it parks in the bus stop. Which means the buses block the road and people pulling out from the estate still have to pull onto the other side of the road blind.

Either me or my wife (using one car last week) have been caught ripping up the roads doing 40 in a 30 on a local dual carriageway. Wife has already got 6points - all 40mph on a 30mph road.

Although if travelling in the opposite direction of the same road the speed limit is 40 mph - and 30 mph in the direction with the speed camera - which confuses the hell out of you anyhow.

Am totally pee'd off with being "fined", "taxed", "robbed", call it what you will, more and more by this tuliphole government and made feel like a bloody criminal.

So has anybody here tried to wrangle out of them?
I had a similar experience only that my speed was 31mph on the 30mph limit part of the dual carriageway. It was newly installed camera and installed incorrectly. The Police and CPS were determined to win the case in order stop a precedent.

The case was heard by a District Judge, the CPS sent two barristers and two police and one “expert” I was on my own. After three hours I had cross-examined the police and the “expert” I proved the photographic evidence of the readout was inaccurate. The DC then made a statement; “ We can’t have every Tom, Dick and Harry coming to court and disputing a speeding fine. Regardless of the photographic evidence I believe your were doing 31mph.”

The case cost me a day’s work and a £460 fine.

PS I am sure that I would win the case on appeal but that would cost me about £10k in legal fees.

There's the thing. If just 10% of the people who got tickets disputed them the whole court system would grind to a halt and they would have no option but to do some work catching proper criminals.

I suspect the fines would go up alot. Possibly it would be alot more if you decided to contest it.

That is already what we have. No such thing as innocent until proven guilty for traffic offences (i.e. stealth tax in disguise).

I think that would send me berserk, basically the judge saying 'Yes so you have proven that you didn't do it, but I'm going to say you did it because I can.'

Having said that I'm pretty sure I wouldn't bother appealing at a cost of 10k. The only thing I might have tried to do was to get something like safespeed or even the RAC involved that might have the cash to back it up.

One of these days I'm actually going to make a positive comment on these forums...

Lets face it, this government have used the last 10 years to design a regime that screws the little person.

In this country, it is now impossible to go through life and make a simple mistake without being fined or at worst receiving a criminal record. This affects every aspect of our lives from Driving to disposal of household waste.

On the other hand, if you're an MP, "mistakes" are allowable, even encouraged, especially if they are to do with expenses.

Do you honestly believe that wasn't the case under the Tories?

You're in for one hell of a shock if they get in next time

Remember to put it in TPD - it'd be a waste to post it in General. General is reserved for hatred, bitching, whining, moaning, more hatred, and as much negativity as you can summon
