I guess the withdrawal was a sensisible move from a British point of view, but it condemned France.

It's typical of the French national character that after being bent over and raped by the Germans three times, they decide that marriage is their only option.
      Spineless wimps.
      Hard Brexit now!

Perhaps you should avail yourself of a dictionary and an encyclopedia?

And that France was out NATO.
And that we did not spend tulipless amount on the useless Eurofighter.

As for spending vs return from the EU, France too is LARGELY in deficit
But not as much as Germany, the UK, or Italy. Think France has twisted the rules there (quelle surprise) to pay less than its share according to its economy.

You're missing the point if you think that you could run a common market with only a few rich countries. And if it were only Germany and France, you would just have one big export surplus country and one budget deficit country, which would then use guilt and dirty politics to make the big export surplus country pay for their overspending and deficits.

Oh wait, that is what the Common Market was for.

              Really?

The Kingdom of Great Britain, also known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain,[1][2] was a sovereign state in northwest Europe, in existence from 1707 to 1801. It was created by the merger of the Kingdom of Scotland and the Kingdom of England, under the Acts of Union 1707, to create a single kingdom.

Oh yes I forgot that France was also royally rogered by the English at Waterloo. And earlier at Calais. And Agincourt.
And by the Germans also at Leipzig.
                  No wonder France walks funny.
