and how soon after everyone has broadband access will the tax be revoked?

.... thought not.
Oh, I’m sorry….I seem to be lost. I was looking for the sane side of town. I’d ask you for directions, but I have a feeling you’ve never been there and I’d be wasting my time.
No, I do not live in the countryside. I live 18 miles from Chester, 19 miles from Manchester, 30 miles from Stoke, 35 miles from Liverpool. I do not live in the country.
I plotted that on a map, and by my reckoning you live in the middle of the Irish Sea. If you want broadband, I'd start by moving to somewhere on land.

Yeah. I live less than 40 miles from London, 55 miles from Birmingham, 9 miles from Milton Keynes... not the boondocks, but max 1/2 Mb broadband speed. BT are quite happy to sell me higher tariffs though

I live 78 miles to London, 45 miles from Birmingham, 32 miles from Milton Keynes, and I get 8Mb ADSL and Zen have told me they're upgrading me to 20Mb/1Mb for free in the next few months.
I had .5Mb/s..but gave it up. It was too slow to get any work done or watch any videos. Plus I was paying for a 8Mb/s line whilst I was getting only a fraction of that. I get 22Mb/s at my office with BeThere and my wife and I saw no reason to pay for both whilst getting close to nothing on one line.
I'm not holding my breath on this...the bar is set way too low.
McCoy: "Medical men are trained in logic." Spock: "Trained? Judging from you, I would have guessed it was trial and error."
I'm not saying you personally are a buffoon, but people who think this way are. This will just be another tax to go in the 'pot' to help pay for all the 'fairness' you see about you.
But on the upside you'll be glad to know your hard earned is going towards a monitoring system so the plod can know instantly who has been leaking that some minister has been claiming for watching porn on their broadband.
Doesn't effect me as I don't live in the UK and have no intention of returning. My 20 Meg broadband has worked fine since it was installed.
If I understand this correctly (saw Gordo trying to look like he knew what he was doing on Euronews this morning), it is a tax on phone lines regardless if you currently have broadband or will want it in the future.
