I grew up in one of those communities, I know how bigoted they can be, guess my point was it's not exclusive to them. You don't generally find better off areas voting BNP because there's a stigma attached and they have alternatives; UKIP for example who're more palatable (Not saying they're racist btw) to the middle classes.
I think in working class communities, in England, once you decide to go against labour then it's unlikely you'll ever vote tory/liberal so what's left?
Might be completely wrong in this, just my 2c.
You are right snaw. My mother in law is a racist as are many white older people. They however see the Tories as enough of a pro British party to not need to vote labour or anyone else.
Labour on the other hand are nowadays full of middle class liberals who wish to purge their guilt by patronising every immigrant, criminal and good for nothing there is. This leaves traditional labour supporters who have quite right wing views about immigration with no where else to go.
Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyone
So some guy goes for Nick Griffin, and that's representative of the 'left wing'?
We don't half have some morons posting here.
It is a bit of a generalisation, but when I used to attend Anti Nazi League events it was normal to find the most radical members wearing badges and handing out papers with Socialist Worker written on them.
A lot of the anti nazi thugs are just the same as the nazi thugs. They are just in it for the violence.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

DA makes a reasonable point here.
The assuaging of imperialist guilt (a guilt that is wholly unnecessary, mind you - most of the iffy things done were done decades ago) means that every one-legged, dyslexic, lesbian, vegetarian must work in the public sector?

At the far ends of the spectrum are where the nutters gather. But that's exactly who and what they are, at the extreme ends and not representative of the majority - so to label everyone with the brush created by a few doesn't make any sense.

Dodgy is on to a good point here. Both Conservative and Labour parties ought to be broad enough that the somewhat extreme people should feel able to go along with one or the other of them. That way we keep the extremists where we can see them. But alas NL and Tories are now attempting to occupy the same middle ground, so they don't bring in the extremes.
