Don't write a load of code and then hand it over to the testers and say "i think it works" and put responsibility on the testers as to whether or not release your stuff. Test it to F. Then hand it over. Know it works. Be responsible.

So if the developer develops and tests the code, what do the testers do? Surely the Test it to F part is their job.

Depends on the development method[ology]. If agile, then the tests should be written first.

I am guessing he just got fired because his tests failed to pick up a bug so it looks like he rubber stamped it before it was delivered to Air France.

No, i'm the dev lead.

I'm p'd off with the lack of responsibility that developers have for their code. I write code too. But i'm obsessed about it and make sure it works properly before i release it.
Don't people CARE about what they put out there? Some of the contractors i work with don't seem to give a F about their stuff. They effectively work to rule. They dont test anything including their own stuff, because they are not paid to test.

(Yes i was contracting for years. I am earning as much now as a perm due to huge IB bonuses. I will go back to contract when the market picks up - no dosh envy)

They dont test anything including their own stuff, because they are not paid to test.
