    I expect better. Higher standard.

No bulltulip here. Why would i BS? do you think i could be bothered to type this much tulip unless i was genuinely urked!!!!!
Typical tester, would rather whinge than do something constructive.

Anyway, shouldn't a programmers response be "Well, it works ok on my machine."?

You are getting what you paid for! FFS. Why on earth do you believe/insist that your contractors owe you any more?

I suggest you build a bridge. And get the **** over it.

Least of all you - if YOUR team is not doing what you expect of them then it is YOUR job to sort it out. Looks like you are the one who is not doing your job properly. If the code is that poor then YOU as the dev team lead should be taking actions to rectify things in YOUR team. What it looks like is you want the title and salary of the dev team lead role but don't want the responsibility. You want a team which produces no errors because that means you have to work and do your job. You are a manager - manage! f***wit!
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

            I preferred version 1!

Shouldn't you become a software developer and show us all how it's done?

Ah, maybe that's it, maybe you're a failed developer.

              Poor boy...

These IB scenarios often require quick and dirty fixes, cos the trader shouts loudly. I'm willing to bet this system grew out of not much in the way of design and you have a "big ball of mud" system design, and the whole schabang is steeped in technical dept.

This is standard. Unless the organisation changes, and adopts a development methodology you will continue to have these problems.

Those who coded the module SHOULD NOT be doing the unit tests.

Hand your badge in at reception and tell them to hire someone who knows what they are doing.

"At the coffee pot" my arse. If someone tells you there's a problem and you don't listen because they didn't have a chance to go and write a full powerpoint presentation then you are not leading, you are loafing.

Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.

If IBs get out of their elitist attitude of "must have an IB background" then the quality of developers will improve. Banks do not accept or believe that there actually are good software developers working in other sectors where quality and resilience are the most important aspects of the job e.g. process, nuclear, petrochem, telemetry - all real-time systems where comparisons are easy to level to trading systems. The difference is that there is often a health and safety aspect in these other sectors where systems MUST work reliably (often 24/7).

Some software developers do take pride and are obsessed with the quality of their output..obviously not the shower you've got in your team.
