If I may be permitted to interrupt the name calling and my wotsit's bigger than your wotsit for a moment, may I just ask the following ?

Aren't aircraft meant to have suppression systems to protect them from electrical strike ?
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Yes aircraft are designed to cope with a lightning strike and it's not uncommon. So there's more to it than we're bing told.

You make it sound like a conspiracy...

Indeed I admit that my arse got handed to me through a misapplication of logic but I'm a base SAS user, alongside S-Plus, MATLAB, R (clunky-but-free) and the deep joy that is Peltarion Synapse.

Didn't mean to. Should have said "more to it than a lightning strike...". The reports say it suffered a shirt circuit
