Wet, nothing else gives as smooth or close a shave (no I do not work for Gillette). However shaving soap / cream is a must and a nice lather applied with the ar*e of a badger does wonders and will reduce/stop the amount of razor burn if used properly. Also a proper aftershave balm would help.

Have you thought of taking the young man down to Trumpers, or a similar time established gentleman’s barbers so he can learn the right way from the beginning and not develop bad habits?
My Dad took me down there eons ago and purchased my first shaving mug and brush, I have been using them ever since. Makes for a nice tradition and all that what!?
