The retail entrepreneur Philip Green has banked £1.2bn after awarding himself the biggest pay cheque in British corporate history. The huge dividend has come from the Arcadia fashion business, which has 2,000 outlets and spans high street names including Top Shop, Wallis and Burton. It is more than four times the group's pre-tax profits of £253m.

Jail term for ex-football chief

Mr Reynolds was once worth £260m
Former Darlington FC chairman George Reynolds was jailed for three years for his part in cheating the taxman out of more than half a million pounds.
Reynolds, 69, of Monument Court, Durham, and cousin Richard Tennick, 59, admitted carrying out the tax scam between 1998 and 2004.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how the pair who ran George Reynolds UK in Shildon acted with "cavalier contempt".

Tennick, of Manfield, North Yorkshire, was sentenced to two years in prison.

Reynolds and Tennick had pleaded guilty to cheating HM Revenue and Customs out of £650,000 in unpaid tax.

Former safecracker Reynolds was told his offending was so serious that only an immediate custodial sentence would suffice.

Other charges, including liability by deception and money laundering, which they denied, were ordered to lie on file.

On Thursday, the Crown offered no evidence against a third defendant, Reynolds' personal assistant Ian Robinson.

Good luck to him I say - if I remember rightly Arcadia was in serious trouble a couple of years back and has now turned right round. Bet if we were in his position we would have all done the same. Except Chico of course who would have handed his share to the nearest deserving christian that me all his criteria regarding what a true christian should be. Oh, yeah ok Chico would take his share as well
