The Conservative MP for Ashford in Kent, who learnt last week that he will not face charges after a Scotland Yard leak inquiry, claimed that his arrest and the tactics used smacked of a "police state".

The system is not infallible, the death of Ian Tomlinson was tragic. The officer has been suspended and is facing charges. Hardly a Police State.

I wonder if he would be facing charges had it not been for the member of the public taking the phone video footage though...

There were a load of other officers standing behind him. Did any of them report their colleague for an assault on a member of the public... clearly not as it took so long to identify the officer involved.

If a member of the public pushes a police officer over they will almost certainly get jail time, even if the officer sustains no injuries.

I'm surprised that they are not pressing charges against the member of public for taking video/photos of the police !!

I don't disagree with your point, but that's not something indicative of a failed state today, it's human nature to close in and protect your peers. Man is still a pack animal.

A police state would have ensured that evidence never came to light and no punishment would have been meted out to the officer in question.

My Dads old Glasgow police and he can tell a few stories. I've also been on the receiving end of a few 'slaps round the ear' from the old bill. Nearly always deserved.

The picture is now complete, you grew up in a policeman's house, an upper lower class kid with a chip on your shoulder. Probably got shunned from the local kids as your dad was with the fuzz, you adopted your Dad's right and wrong attitude and as you have previously explained despise members of the electorate for their ethnic origins.
