Go for a second hand Focus Estate. Nice, solid, sensible and dependable.Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Ours (05 Scenic II) is the biggest heap of tulip I've ever had the misfortune to own. Electric failures all the time, warning light, engine management faults etc.
Dealer is completely unable to fix any of it, claims its "just a computer glitch". Its been in so often I've lost count. And I hear the same stories from lots of other owners too.
Seriously, steer well clear.Work in the public sector? Read the IR35 FAQ hereComment

Weren't they on Watchdog last week? I was only half watching while on my PC, but I believe they had to recall thousands of dashboards or something.
Funnily enough I had the same problem with my ex Audi TT a couple of years ago, where the dashboard dials started playing up and blanking out - Audi wanted to charge me £400 to replace but I kicked up a stink and got it changed for nought (eventually...).______________________

To quote Parkers on the Megane range:
A torrent of problems from owners of early cars - no new car should have so many problems. Squealing brakes, water leaks, loose trim, loss of power and gear selection problems are just a few. More recent cars seem to be better built and complaints are decreasing.Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment
