BGG, I don't think this is anything like the Diana thing, I agree that someone famous dieing is not more special, of course Diana was over-done, that was the media as much as anyone else (especailly the paper you like to buy). It's just the thought of it being someone fairly young losing a child, it could have been someone in the office, a friend or whoever. I'd still feel a bit sad hearing about it. I appreciate some people don't like emotional stuff, and the first reaction is to scorn. Thing is, sometimes you expect everyone will have a similar view but then we are all different.
    Nicely put Puss.

I'm sick of the attitude here (not yours - you were always a good chap, err.. cat) .

CUK seems largely full of greedy, needy, nasty winkers - and until my old pals Tex O'Voider and Roger Rabbit surface again - I'm out.

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

I have similar feelings. I'm sorry the lad has died and I can't imagine what "call me" Dave is going through at the moment, but I don't understand the need to express it in some sort of group hug forum "WHS +1" love in.

Cheers Baggie and RH, points both well made.

Whether the media in the next few days leaves the Cameron's alone, we will see.

And Bogey, please try and be civil. You're getting a bit too personally involved in this. Or deliberately being antagonistic, which is something this board needs less off.

At no point have I resorted to infantile name-calling, and I can catergorically state that I have no Sock Puppets in use. (I did have one, about 2 years ago, and made about 3 posts with it, then I saw no point in deceiving people, so I abandoned the idea). You can ask the Mods if you like, you have my permission.

RH posted : understand the point you're making, but here we're just sharing the 'poor bloke' sentiment
Poor bloke sentiment. Absolutely agree. I can't think of many things worse.

Baggie posted : The Diana thing, boy was that overdone by (that paper)
It was just a wee trifle bit.

Scorn is too much of a negative word in my situation. Curious as to what makes people tick, would be closer to the truth, because I suspect the answer is far from the obvious and quite complex.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I'm glad I'm not in the UK as this will be the only thing on the news.

Here's another tragic death, can we have a tribute thread for this 3 month old girl.

Don't say that Bogey! We all get a bit wound up from time to time!
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

Seems like I've accidentally stumbled into the "I'm emotional and lost all sense of perspective" thread.
I'm afraid that, while I have every sympathy with the family, I find it impossible to grieve for someone I don't know.
Maybe that makes me heartless, but I doubt it.

If you kindly read back a few pages, you will see that I was talking about Diana, and how it seemed that since that event, the way in which the nation grieves as a whole, has changed.

I didn't say that this event was the same as Diana's death.

I don't think anyone was "grieving" Sas... I think it was more a sympathy, God love them type thread, until of course it decended into usual CUK squabbling
