I am glad though.... it was a kid and it's awful sad. To be fair, I didn't have the radio or tv on this morning so I found out about it from CUK. FWIW I am glad the thread was posted.Bazza gets caught

Whilst I seem to be the rotten-tomato target can I just point out :
1. I did not set out to demean Ivan's death in any way.
2. I have not criticised the family.
3. Yes, I do feel sympathy for them.
4. Now I am annoyed, because I've been forced to admit number 3, as part of a witch hunt. I believe people's emotions should be kept to themselves when in the company of strangers or the public. In private or with family, that's different.
5. No one seems to understand the point I am trying to make, or is choosing to ignore it.Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Jeez, that is really low.Originally posted by d000hg View PostEveryone's saying the same "what a shame, condolences etc" thing. Why not just have a poll for people to add their name:
His son has died...
1)What a shame, poor bloke

I know Puss.Originally posted by Bagpuss View PostWasn't mainly at you, but rather BGG's accusation of mawkish (sp?) mentality. It's not like we are having a candle lit vigil, just a moment expressing we are humans rather than belligerent children (me included). I am surprised no poor taste jokes have been posted though!
The more I see of this board the less I feel I would like to meet any of the posters in real life - with a few honourable exceptions, of course.
Very little humanity and warmth here.
You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

I have similar feelings. I'm sorry the lad has died and I can't imagine what "call me" Dave is going through at the moment, but I don't understand the need to express it in some sort of group hug forum "WHS +1" love in."See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."Comment

I think the mods should delete the thread before it becomes another pedantic argument
My thoughts are if you don't like it don't post, or set up another thread to air your views. We shouldn't have to justify things like this. The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”Comment

It's nothing personal, I promise !
I'm just interested in what makes the zeitghost tick, and herd behaviour.
The obervations are no less valid from me, than if they were from someone like Desmond Morris, who would no doubt ask the same thing. (Though I suspect he is more learned and eloquent than I, so he could inquire more sensitively).
But the sentiment is the same.
Did you not feel a sense of "unease" witnessing the mass public outpourings of grief at Buckingham Palace, with the flowers for Lady Di ? The endless TV reports with people plucked from the streets and their grief exploited to fuel the media frenzy ?
It's certainly one thing to get carried away by it all, but don't you ever feel you just want to stop the merry-go-round, get off, and start asking difficult questions ?
I dunno.
Maybe that's not you.
It's probably just me.
As I said, nothing personal.
