Somewhere in Acts the rules on food are rescinded. Other things are dealt with in other ways; it's not an area I know much about so I won't make guesses. Certainly, the rules on marriage & sex have not got this kind of confusion over them, the biblical message boils down to two simple things:Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostThat was the 3rd reading. Did you prefer the 1st reading from Leviticus?
Always interesting which bits one chooses to observe from Leviticus : it is very explicitly condemning homosexuality. But Christians seem to only follow certain laws from Leviticus.....
1)Marriage is between one woman and one man
2)Don't have sex with anyone not your spouse
What you make of that is up to you of course, but I think this is one area it's at least pretty black and white.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

I thought a critical mass is where a vicar has a dig at the government?Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostIf the pope and the anti-pope get together to rip each other's beliefs to shreds, does that cause a critical mass?Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? - EpicurusComment

I believe they are known as the 2 great commandments.Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostSome of the LGCM would disagree with that. Quite a few Christians as well. But sadly, probably a minority.
AIUI, Christians only have to follow two laws. 1. Love God with all your heart mind and soul. 2. Love your neighbour as yourself.
I would like to love my neighbour : she is a really hot piece of totty who always something skimpy. And I know her marriage is quite rocky......Comment

No, Christians don't follow any laws from Leviticus. A true Christian only follows the word of Jesus Christ.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostThat was the 3rd reading. Did you prefer the 1st reading from Leviticus?

Leviticus is Old Testament, and Christians do not follow anything there, even the 10 commandments, except for anything that's the same as Christ's teachings.
The clue is in the name of the religion.Comment

Hmm yes, all right, a true Christian should follow this too.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostI believe they are known as the 2 great commandments.

That's pretty much untrue. Christianity teaches that Jesus came to fulfil the Jewish prophecies. A proper understanding of Christianity requires understanding of the old testament.Originally posted by Doggy Styles View PostNo, Christians don't follow any laws from Leviticus. I find that rather contradictory, wasn't Jesus supposed to be a Jew and known to be called Rabbi? If so he would have had a strong belief in the Old Testament.Originally posted by Doggy Styles View PostNo, Christians don't follow any laws from Leviticus. In the early days of Christianity weren't gentiles (non Jews) excluded?
I do find it weird how some supposedly Christian people have treated the Jews over the last two thousand odd years and continue to do so when their supposed Saviour would have been horrified at what was happening to his own people and religion.Comment

I think those people are just haters. Haters will often find ways to 'justify' their actions, whether it's "they're stealing our jobs" or "they killed our Saviour" - I reckon you have to learn to separate individuals' actions from the causes they claim to uphold.Originally posted by TykeMerc View PostI do find it weird how some supposedly Christian people have treated the Jews over the last two thousand odd years and continue to do so when their supposed Saviour would have been horrified at what was happening to his own people and religion.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

Jesus is a Jew... well his mother was, so that makes him one.
The first Christians were all Jews. But Gentiles were included very soon after pentecost.
The council of Jerusalem was where it was decided that gentile Christians didn't have to keep to the dietary laws or be circumcised. Just to not eat animals that had been strangled, or eat/drink blood and to refrain from fornication.
Sorry, BrilloPad, your next door totty is off limits!Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment
