At the court the police said that I handed the keys to them from my trouser pocket. If they had said from the ignition, perhaps I could understand the prosecution, but I think they prosecuted me maliciously because of my attitude. So I had the last laugh !!!!

I wish that I could respect the police but I cannot for the above reasons and others that I may relate later.
Wow, how amazing that you have come up with a story about how you were wronged by the police, right after you outed yourself as a coward, with no sense of civic duty

AFAIK if the keys were in the car then technically you were in charge of the vehicle. But IANAL.

Obviously my understanding is incorrect or you had a good lawyer.....

The police ineffectual? It's an open and shut case.

I have worked with them on a couple of jobs and left one because I felt guilty taking a wage writing software I knew was never going to work. There was just a 'can't be arsed' attitude right through everyone I met there, civilian or force.

Now I stick to the banks, quite happy to write crap code there.

No... I just had an honest account of the fact that I had no intention to drive. I was outside my girlfriend's flat where we had had an argument at her party. I asked her to come outside so that we could discuss the issue in private, which we did, made up,but later fell asleep.
When the police came along I offered to show them my sleeping bag which was in the back of the car but they were not interested in looking , just interested in an 'easy' conviction !!
Unfortunately, for the police I also had a mate at the party that was also staying over because we were both going to watch Arsenal by tube the following day, who I gave a lift to the party.
I spent a night plus the following morning in the cells, and if the police had listened to my story and other people's stories it would have saved them, my friends and me a lot of time and money which could have been better used to prosecute a violent offender !!

Whatever you say, although... I am not sure what proof you *think* you have.

You really are a nasty, nasty, bitter little man....
