I love this sort of argument. On what basis do you assert the majority of people are against it?

Forget that, the majority of MP's that 'represent' the electorate (notice the ' usage) are against the runway, which is why McSnotty wont let it go to a vote in the commons.

I assume it will get a chance to be voted on by SOMEONE? Hopefully the Lords will quash the plans, oh wait I think they have lost that right, they can only table ammendments!

This is the type of political climate where Mer Majesty really needs to intervene and say that her peopl's will is not being done!

I haven't expressed an opinion (although you may have read into one, from my user name); therefore I do not need any logic! Still, several posts later, nobody has substantiated the claim (with slight exception of below).

I certainly am against it for environmental reasons. Also, if they had to expand an airport, then why not use Stanstead or Gatwick which are in far less populated areas.

I shan't start on Environmental reasons, it is another whole debate. Agree with you about Stanstead or Gatwick though.

Again, do you have any proof? Are you referring to the local MPs or all MPs as a whole?

And how would she know what her peoples will actually is? How do you know it isn't the will of the majority?

Heard the Airlines muppet on 5live this morning arguing for it.

It's so that we can have more connecting flights from Airports such as Manchester, Glasgow, Newcastle, etc through London.

Simple solution?

Encourage the Airlines to operate more long haul flights (through their licences) from Manchester, Glasgow, Newcastle, etc

It's a pain in the A$$ having to change flights (in addition usually adding an extra half day there and half day back).

And it's cheaper to change at Schipol, Brussels and Paris than it is to change at London anyway (I've changed at all three recently, but at London, never!).

Also, why not build high-speed rail lines from elsewhere in the country direct to Heathrow, so that people with connections to make can make them by train? This would cut the use of Heathrow for connecting feeder flights and give more capacity back for other flights.

E.g. why not a high-speed rail service from Glasgow-Manchester-Birmingham-Heathrow-then on direct to Paris? (Somewhat as the French have done with TGV services going round Paris without going in it, stopping at Charles de Gaulle, and on to Lille, London, and Brussels.

So I have to recycle everything I use, switch off my electrical appliances at night etc etc because if I don't the world will come to an end, but its ok to have a load more aircraft flying about. Forgive me if I boil my kettle to make a cup of tea to ponder this one.
