They need the money to import food i've been told. Apparently they have started concreting over so many former rice paddies that there is an imminent food shortage on the horizion and with the recent increase in the rice price much of the population will slip below the breadline shortly.Originally posted by BlasterBates View Post -

China’s leadership is likely to avoid any complete halt to purchases of Treasuries for fear of appearing to be torpedoing American chances for an economic recovery at a vulnerable time, said Paul Tang, the chief economist at the Bank of East Asia here.
