It's not the poverty, it's the acceptance of it as normal, and the poverty of spirit that goes with it. Not the bus being late but the fact that nobody gives a tulip. Not the dirt and litter but the lack of self-respect, and respect for others and the environment, that breeds it.

Things have got so bad the centre-piece for the new shopping mall is to be a three storey Primark and boy, you should have heard the councillors and the local rag rave about what a great thing it was for the town.
Reminds of my hometown. A few years ago developers ripped down the ice rink and a few other buildings to make way for what was promised to be a flagship retail store in the heart of thriving, metropolitan, Brighton.
Who moved in?

Chin up everyone... we'll have the Olympics soon, it's supposed to restore a sense of national pride.Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment

Hmm like there aren't some devious people who can't find out real identitiesThe court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”Comment
