They've been sending increasingly unpleasant letters to me all year. Didn't have a TV, didn't watch or record any programmes on TV as they were being broadcast, just DVDs and iPlayer. Have since bought a TV, but it's not tuned or connected to an aerial so still don't need a licence, still only watching DVDs. Expecting word to get round to them from the retailer that we have a TV. and they'll come knocking at the door. They'll be welcome to come round, and once they've obtained a warrant, I'll be delighted to assist them in checking the TV for compliance.Comment

It's the Government that makes the laws and associated regulations, not the BBC.Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostSo anyone that has a broadband connection needs a TV license? Yeah right, nice try BBC.
Specifically, The Communications (Television Licensing) Regulations 2004 state that "any reference to receiving a television programme service includes a reference to receiving by any means any programme included in that service, where that programme is received at the same time (or virtually the same time) as it is received by members of the public by virtue of its being broadcast or distributed as part of that service" (regulation 9(2)).Comment

As long as you're not watching one of the 'live' programs that they now show (on iPlayer at least). I notice you don't get warned about that particular pitfall.Originally posted by oafc0000 View PostIf your watching IPlayer / 4OD etc... Then you dont need a tv license

Any house that does not have a TV license is automatically treated as evading the law, regardless of any effort to prove you don't have a TV. I know a few families who choose not to watch TV on the basis they would rather choose to do things than watch TV as a non-choice, and they are often harassed, even the ones who actually have no TV in the house at all (some people have a TV detuned only for watching DVDs).Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment
