BNP Members list leaked on the internet

I find this whole thing quite perplexing.
The BNP is not illegal is it?
Havent they been elected to some public bodies? So why are they banned from serving in the police? So in effect one political party can ban another party from being in the poublic service? Why dont Labour just ban any members of the conservative party from being in public service because they dont like some Conservative policies?
I am quite ignorant of the BNP and what they get up to, however they are not illegal... so I am not sure how such a ban works within law. Clearly it does.. but given human rights laws, I am surprised.
And what kind of sad dork saves a copy of this on their personal laptop???
I think this is a shocking case of invasion of privacy and sincerely hope everyone involved with it gets made an example of. Publishing personal details of people online is a disgusting act and I hope anyone who supports such action, one day finds themselves a victim of an invasion of privacy.Comment

On the other side of the same coin, banning a party outright would be a deadly serious interference in the political process itself, something of much more weight than occupational restrictions. Hence you would not readily ban a party, even if you prohibited holders of some posts from being members.
Personally I would not have the occupational bans, on the grounds that:
1. Liberty is more important.
2. It is more important to argue than to ban.
3. The ban, even when it works, will not eliminate people by belief or attitude from these posts; only by actual membership. It is effectively a ban on BNP members being coppers, not a ban on coppers being sympathetic to the explicit or implicit aims of the BNP.
4. I'd rather have them where I can see them.Comment

still quite funny though, that is until the inevitable braying mobs start up, and then it'll be quite sad, as another part of the quirky British democratic system disappears in a cloud of misinformation and distortions.
If you deny people a voice, especially if you don't like what they say, the result is quite predictably nasty.
The people who do this kind of thing are only playing into the hands of the dangerous wing of the extremists.Comment

I looked at the list.
I found one person I know (distantly).
He's married to a black lady and took in her 3 mixed race kids.Comment

They can say what they like, I judge people by their actions, and what they do is what I have a problem with. I know of these people, I've met one of the area heads (a seemingly respectable Airline pilot). He is fully aware of the mob violence that goes on, and actively encourages it, while standing back on the sidelines. The BNP should not be confused with the mainsteam parties until they attempt control their nasty violent element. The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”Comment
