Annoying things motorists do

    Well to be accurate your missus is wrong. Sat in a traffic jam in his Supercharged Range Rover compared to a random Micra/Aygo/Clio etc Chuchill will be:-
    • Marginally more comfortable
    • Using twice the fuel on tickover
    • Emitting 2-3 times the CO2 and other exhaust products
    • Paying at least 3x the road tax
    • Losing 20-50x more money in devaluation
    • Since he never uses the inside lanes he will be being passed by 50 cars for each car he passes
    • Paying much more in insurance

        The motorway speed limit was set in the mid 60s. Your average 60s car is uncomparable with a motor from today

        60s car: drum brakes, 12-13 inch wheels
        Modern car: disk brakes all round 15-19 inch wheels

        60s cars: Remoulds and non radial tyres
        Modern car: wide, wet weather tyres.

        60s car: seatbelts not compulsary and not always fitted

        Modern Car: Inertia real setbelts all round

        60s car: no airbags, no crimple zones

        60s car: mostly flat out at 70-80
        Modern car: mid range revs at 80

        60s car: crap suspension

        So in the mid 60s a car doing 80 mph could be very unsafe/unstable/dangerous.

        Of course thinking time doesn't change, but cars react much much more safely.

          Nah, I've driven a fair few Range Rovers and I chose the word marginally quite carefully.
          As to being higher up that's true apart from being at roughly the same height as every other 4x4, most MPV's including the 5 seaters and just about every transit type van on the road.

            They pull up and ask directions.

            Not annoying, but I bet they are when they realise I've sent them the wrong way.

            Had one the other day asking the way to the local clinic, ugly family, so I gave them directions to the vets.

                Undeniable facts.

                You can also add the electronics that allow the brakes, suspension and steering to act much more effectively.

                Unfortunately you can also add that the roads are much much busier now than they used to be and that the driving standard certainly hasn't improved.

                    A lot more comfortable, I'm 6ft 8" tall. I can get into either of the Range Rovers, drive to a meeting 200 miles away and arrive fresh as a daisy. Both have fitted mobile phones so at a pinch I can have conference calls while stuck in traffic.

                    They are business tools and pay for themselves.

                    Where as you TykeMerc are a Wedge, the simplest tool known to man.

                      Sorry Churchill, but you're far from the only tall person in the UK, I'm not a midget myself and a good friend shares your height, there are quite a few cars that he's comfortable driving. Neither of us rate the Range Rover as anything special and both of us drive far too much.

                      Fitted carphones/carkits and dare I say it other hands free devices like bluetooth are far from uncommon or expensive so the conference call issue (if it was legal in traffic which it isn't) is irrelevant.

                      A Range Rover is no more a business tool than any other vehicle so your argument is fatuous and based more on your concept of self worth via vehicle image than anything real.

                      I won't stoop to calling you names as I grew out of that in Primary school.
