I didn't realise this even existed (the Facebook group). What amazed me most is the number of people who seem to post here and there under their real name - this is not a criticism, but I'd be concerned that posting some of my more trenchant views might have the potential for losing me potential gigs if people knew who I really was.....

This facebooky stuff looks harder work than eBay. Somebody remind me, is Facebook the one used by plebby sorts or is is that other one? Only I don't want to sign up for anything too common.

And you all look too young. Where have all the old farts gone on this board?

          Like who?

I only know of one fella who's name on here is even slightly close to his real name. And he is the nicest fella you could ever meet on here and in the real world so it'd never be an issue for him.

There are at least three people on there posting with the same names as on here - I won't name them as they're pretty easy to find. Of course they could both be bogus, but most people I know use their real name on Facebook.

I've been posting stuff on the net since 1993 and I've never been bothered about hiding my identity. It doesn't matter if I'm posting on Usenet, Slashdot or CUK - if somebody doesn't want to hire me because of my personal views, despite the fact that I have the skills they need, it's their loss and I couldn't care less.

Until very recently you could click on the username beside any of my posts, or visit my member page, and follow the "Visit NickFitz's homepage" link to see my personal website (such as it is - the cobbler's child walks barefoot ). The only reason I disabled this option is that it was diluting my GoogleJuice, with too many inbound links from CUK to my site's home page.

(Note to admin: if you modify your vBulletin templates by adding the rel="nofollow" attribute to links to users' homepages, I'll switch that back on again. Your pages would remain W3C standards-compliant, if only they were already.)

I have to admit, that would have been a better choice.
