AtW, if you go to a conventional live auction you can’t ask the auctioneer to extend time after he puts the hammer down.

Auctioneers when they get new bid will ask the audience - especially those who bid just before them - if they want to outbid, they will give them TIME, slowing down their hammer - only after it is clear that the previous bidders do not want to increase auction (proper one with auctioneer and hammer) will end.

This is how fking it was done for a long time and for a reason - if you want to drive the final sell price up, which is the job of the auction house, you need to create bidding frenzy, people should be outbidding each other during the course of auction, not last second that prevents the previous bidders from doing another bidding - to close the auction without giving them chance to bid again is deriliction of duty on behalf of auctioneer, in real world he'd be sued if he did not allow previous bidders a chance to outbid new bidder.

Sure there are auctions that work on the basis of sealed bids with time limit - this is different, we are talking about auction when bid values are known.

So, what I conclude here is that you are either intentionally trying to wind me up or you are just too stupid to understand the fundamentals about auction because all you think about how good it is to do cheap snipes, basically your judgement (not the word I'd use here but anyway) is biased in this case. I bid properly well in time before the auction was closed - any other bidder who thought to outbid me was welcome to do so, sniper however is a cheating scumtulip who bid 2 minutes before end of auction - when I got email from ebay (with extra delay) it was too late to outbid him. What stopped sniper to bid same amount well before end of auction if he was such a good buyer who was prepared to outbid me? Nothing apart from his desire to avoid normal bidding process and deny opportunity for good bidders to outbid him - anti-competitive practice if there was one

I just bid again on another same keyboard (could be same guy) - cost me £5 to win it, £9 delivery - the other one the sniping idiot won it for £26 + £9 delivery, I bid max £20

Bidding at the last minute should auto extend auction at least by an hour - this should be, at the very least, option for sellers to specify for their auction.

Not if you're the owner it's not. Plebs buy bids at 50p a pop, each bid on an item increases the price by 7p. So,for example, if a PS3 goes for £70, thats 1000 bids at 50p plus the £70 for the eventual winner = £570 going to swoopo.

All the winning plebs see is the £70 they picked up a PS3 for. All the losing plebs just see their 50p bids down the toilet.

I hear people are losing money hand over fist on this site...

I just had a look round the swoopo web site and the whole thing is just a chav magnet... I can imagine the unemployed (and benched) sitting there at home bidding again and again untill they win "saving" £50 in the process and forgetting about the hundreds they have lost in bids on the site.
It should be controlled by the gambling/gaming commission but then it probably falls outside of its remit by a technicality
