"Hello. Now, you remember when we spoke on the phone on Friday we said we were looking for a business analyst to get write up the initial requirements document. Since then things have moved on somewhat. So how's your embedded C++?"

At my last gig, it was a 5 minute round trip to the coffee machine so I used to make coffees for everyone 5 times a day and mentally add up the cash in my head. They commissioned a 'Tea Bitch' badge for me in the end.

One of the more satisfying contractor milestones is walking over to the machine, getting a mars bar, and realising that by the time you got back to your desk you've earned enough to pay for the mars bar.

Obviously it's very easy if the machine's a couple of floors away.

I almost caught one of those, fishing in the Mersey once.

                But it got away.
