Otherwise poor "Lucky" the Guide Dog would have been gassed on the underground.

I can visualise the poor chap getting to the end of the escalator and hearing an almighty ripping noise as Lucky gets a Number 1 shave, and feeling his lead go limp.

    Utterly horrific !
Yeah, it's horrible when your lead goes limp, eh, BGG?

Hmm, maybe. On the other hand, don't dogs go out of their way to sniff around things that we with our more limited olfactory sensibilities avoid?

Ah, the joys of setting 'em up so that others can pounce eh ?
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

          Why yes they do.

          However, consider this.

Nearly all canines have a superlative olfactory sense.

Now consider Guide Dogs, which are hand-picked for their exceptional level of ocular and olfactory sense.

You're average mutt is going to think "Ewww, that's a bad one".

A Guide Dog on the other hand, is going to go in to a state of near catatonia by an especially rank human chufferance of the buttocks.

Think of it as OD'ing for a dog.
