Dumb question: what is SAP

Not sure if somebody mentioned this already as I don't want to read all posts in this thread.
However, what I find amazing about SAP is that you can basically find a job pretty much everywhere. Even in a small village, you still have a company that uses SAP. Most of us, IT bods, are pretty much forced to work in big towns or commute to them. I really wish I had SAP in my pocket just because it gives you a better choice to move to smaller towns.I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.Comment

Well, the only contract that I have found outside Zürich with my skillset was in Martigny and it never happened again. Yet if I had SAP on my list I would have already found lots of contract/permanent jobs pretty much everywhere. A small company will survive without its own application servers or integration suites but not without SAP. Of course, if you are a greedy no-life person like Milan then taking a rate cut must seem like a big thing to do. But also the lower costs of small towns is something to consider, at the end it all balances off quite well.Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostNot in my experience. The small village I grew up in has the following enterprises:Originally posted by Francko View PostEven in a small village, you still have a company that uses SAP.
- 2 churches
- 4 pubs
- 1 post office
- 1 hairdressers
AFAIK, none of them run SAP, but I may be mistaken...Comment

in defense of Frankie all of them could be on SAP, if they were part of a chain and using a centrally managed system. I doubt though that a contract for working on the SAP system would require you to be located in that village. Most likely you would be located in Central London as that is where all the chains they would be part of have their HQ.Originally posted by TheFaQQer View PostThe small village I grew up in has the following enterprises:

I work on a SAP system every day that are used by workers all over the world, that does not mean I have to sit in Ukraine or the Philliphines just because the user with a problem is there."Condoms should come with a free pack of earplugs."Comment
