As it's probably in the top 5 of largest software companies in the world it would seem strange for someone who works with software not to know what it is. I think that's where the presumption that you were kidding might have come from.
Like I said, I've across SAP as a timesheet system (it was absolutely abysmal). But since there are a lot of high-paying jobs in SAP, I figured it must be something else... I'm a developer so I know nothing about what PMs use, and I am still under the impression SAP is used by PMs.
I'm still not totally sure what a "SAP job" entails, which is really my main question.

No one does, that's part of the magic. It's a bit like alchemy only newer.
I believe SAP consultants still get burned alive for witchcraft in some south american countries.
back in the days when I was a wee auditor for Deloitte I worked on some clients that had SAP - horrible user interface and a drag to get any good data out of - I would forget it - such a user unfriendly system cannot survive in the long run.
