How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

That shouldn't stop the treaty going ahead. UK shouldn't be given a vote, likewise Brits wouldn't understand what they're voting for either. Should be left to politicians. Brits voted for all this in the 1970s anyway so they shouldn't complain. The people who complain are those who are brainwashed by the Daily Mail".
Right wing response: how lovely to see the left's belief in democracy and respect for the people. Clearly no one is brainwashed by the guardian or the beeb, ever. Only clever people get their info from there, clearly. Why not cancel all future elections now, the people are obviously too stupid not to vote for the liberal-leftie marxists, so why let them.Comment

In the absence of proper lefites, I'll have to do. Like Tony Benn (and everyone I know on the left), I'm completetly against the Lisbon treaty. It's anti-democratic and will shift power from democratically elected representatives (who imperfect as they are are at least accountable through elections) to an undemocratic central body. Benn espouses the left libertarian argument here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/m.../29/do2903.xmlOriginally posted by contractor79 View PostEU Lisbon treaty: "Irish didn't know what they were voting for. You will find that many on the left are internationalists, but support for the EU doesn not necessarily follow. I don't believe in the nation state but prefer to live in a democratic nation state than an undemocratic supranation.Comment

Things Lefties say
1/ why is my life expectancy shorter
2/ why is that left handed guitar so expensive
3/ why does the ink smudge when I writeThe court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”Comment
