Leigh Francis isn't a stand up.
Peter Kaye isn't a political comedian.
Neither is Al Murray.

My personal favourite is Stewart Lee who is a sort of British Bill Hicks, a thinking man or woman's comedian. He doesn't do naff observational comedy, or require pantomime costumes. He could run intellectual rings around that ponced up Piratey fool.

I don't consider Stewart Lee a comedian, more of a social-commentarist IMO. But like that fella who does the government baiting on Channel 4 - Mark something

I'm not sure Brand can be pigeonholed as political in the same way that Ben Elton or such would.

And the Stewart Lee that you talk of that "doesn't do naff observational comedy, or require pantomime costumes" musn't be the same Stewart Lee who planned to open his TV show performing a stand up routine dressed as an insect?
