I am not qualified to give the above advice!

You have nothing to Fear - except Fear itself.
If you have done no wrong then you have nothing to fear ...perhaps.

Some brave soul has started off an e-petition on the Number 10 website against this whole thing, if anyone feels like sticking their head above the trench. I have signed up, I know no fear....

I've signed up to some no. 10 petitions before. The response is invariably: "we appreciate your views, but f off, we're doing it anyway".
"Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny. "

Of course when they’ve built the e-mail and internet use database they’ll definitely know who you are and where you live if you sign a petition.
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

There is also another irony, in that during "V for Vendetta", the well-known phrase "People should not be afraid of their Government, the Government should be afraid of its people" is uttered by V.

The irony being that this is exactly why the government is introducing draconian surveillance on an almost daily basis.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

                      C.S. Lewis
