Saying speed kills in road deaths is like saying gravity is what kills suicide victims who jump off a roof.Cooking doesn't get tougher than this. -

Gravity doesn't kill suicide jumpers. It's the ground that does that.Originally posted by TheBigYinJames View PostSaying speed kills in road deaths is like saying gravity is what kills suicide victims who jump off a roof.
I think we should ban the ground. Will work inside IR35. Or for food.Comment

No, no, don't ban it, just tax it.Comment

No, people avoid tax. If you ban the ground, then add a derisory fine, people will continue to hit it, but you can collect money from them on an ongoing basis in the form of fines. Much better than a tax.Originally posted by PRC1964 View PostNo, no, don't ban it, just tax it.Cooking doesn't get tougher than this.Comment

Joe Blogs is a moron then - he should be driving to the conditions.Originally posted by The Lone Gunman View PostBecause most people drive well below the speed limit for their test.
Day to day driving is a different matter. Joe Bloggs will still want to get there as fast as possible, but without a ticket. He will drive as close to the limit as he can but will spend more time looking at his speedo than the road.
The alternative is every road moving at well below the speed limit which will lead to ridiculous overtaking manouvres and just as many deaths.
It is not speed that kills, it is a contributing factor but not itself the cause. Bad driving is the cause and that has not been policed for quite some time.
What leads to ridiculous overtaking is people who can't drive properly.
I agree with your final paragraph on bad driving though.
I don't agree with the expenditure on these cameras, but I do question some people's attitudes to driving, speed and the law. Whilst I'd be lying if I said I never broke a limit, I get plenty of enjoyment from driving within the limits and I don't consider it an affront to everything I hold dear if encounter someone going a bit more slowly than I was - this is a bit like the argument about people pushing me out of the way to get on the tube first - the advantage they gain is tiny in real terms but huge in their tiny minds.Comment

I thought Bob made some good points above - shame he posted in the wrong thread!Originally posted by Bob Dalek View PostI am sooooooo glad I walk and Tube-it these days. The fun went out of driving about 15 years ago: I got about 2 years' enjoyable motoring after passing my test (I passed it late on), and then it all seemed to go a bit crap. Don't miss it anymore: so many tw@ts on the road, and I don't mean the usual BMW owning nutters; I mean every f--ker, grannies, kids, the whole lot, driving aggressively - I suspect it's down to clogged roads and stress levels, or just because we are, now, a nation of cnuts.Comment

AS someone put on cuk a while ago - drivers seem to be able to stare out of the window, chat on mobile, etcetc - but looking at speedo too much.Originally posted by The Lone Gunman View PostThat wont be dangerous will it. I mean all those drivers looking at the clock instead of the road, no completely safe that will be.Comment
