Nothing at odds as far as I am concerned with an organisation as important to the public as the police having a rule that says BNP membership is banned.

A racist organisation deserves special treatment.
On that basis, the Police better start weeding out Muslims from their ranks then. Is that going to happen ? Don't hold your breath....
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I wonder if people checkout what organisations muslim members of the police force agree with.

It is very worrying when people can't work for the taxpayers depending on their political affiliations. Why would membership of communist parties be acceptable in this society, for example?

What next? No jobs for people who are anti-EU? No jobs for those who disagree with immigration policy? Slippery slope, folks.

I disapprove of the BNP but while they're a legal party, isn't it actually illegal to be sacked for supporting them? Unless they can sack you for wearing a tory/labour badge? In that case I'm fine with it...

Not got your logic on this one. Why is a muslim police officer's religion equivalent to a BNP ones politics?

It's not rocket science to suppose that someone who supports the BNP is a racist, and an openly racist copper is going to have a hard time proving they're not biased against 'certain' sections of the public, whom they're supposed to be serving.

I think it's double standards when an off duty copper is sacked for wearing a BNP badge, yet a Muslim officer was allowed to refuse to guard the Israeli embassy on 'moral' grounds. Or what about the case of the female Muslim officer who refused to shake Ian Blair's hand because it was against her religion.

Then you have the case of the christian evangelists being threatened with arrest for 'hate' crimes for handing out leaflets in a predominately Muslim area of Birmingham and West Midlands police refusing to apologise. How about the Muslim policeman (from the Greater Manchester police force) who was allowed to keep his job after being in a car crash and driving away and trying to cover it up.

Or what about the senior immigration official at the home office who's an activist for Hizb ut-Tahrir (who are a banned organisation by the way)

You can see why the BNP are snapping up Labours old core white working class voter. I don't vote BNP, but I do think they are a legitimate political party and should be treated as such.

There are some pretty unpleasant people in the BNP true. But on the other hand many supporters are simply fed up with what is happening in the UK and who find nobody else is listening.

AAAAhhhhhhhhh some anti racist posts here, and all without me having to bring it up - I’ve gone all tearful now…

Any how, a family relative of mine is a copper, in general they are discouraged to appear to support any society with a political agendas or parties that can be seen as a political influence, several times me and that copper's wife attended charity dos to collect money for children in countries at war, he always declines and insists this is frowned upon as they are to be seen as non-biased.

This is common knowledge and training for police officers, therefore I assume that guy knew supporting and being seen with the badge representing a controversial party is not acceptable (on or off duty) and he did it because he just didn't care or truly believed and supported the BNP, in which case its right to release him of his duty.

As I siad police have a policy (T&Cs) to follow, its not acceptable for the Queen or Charles to support any political parties, and the same goes for the police.
