Let's say West Germany got nuked during short war there - would UK use nukes on USSR cities knowing full well it will be totally destroyed in response? I think not.

Critics of the Government’s cuts in defence spending say that they have left the country at risk. Four years ago four squadrons of Jaguar and Tornado F3 fighters were slashed from the RAF’s books.

The RAF is also expected to lose two of its frontline Tornado GR4 ground attack squadrons as part of cuts to existing forces.

Very selective quoting of statistics, they forget to mention the 55 Typhoons the RAF took delivery of to replace the Tornado and Jaguar or the 89 that are on order for Tranche two. The Typhoon can also carry Paveway which means it'll be doing the GR4s role as well and also take into account the Navy have replaced their FA2 Harrier squadrons with the GR7 and GR9 then of course it makes sense to retire the GR4's.

The UK is also signed up to the Joint Strike Fighter, so it's not all doom and gloom.

Maybe the solution to this and other problems is:

a) petition the Greater French Republic to merge the British Isles with Brittany region of France

b) adopt French language as the only official one (Her Majesty already speaks it).

c) The new French Navy will get new French missiles using plutonium obtained in new nuclear reactors build in what used to be UK.

Those Tu-160s are lead from the moment they receive radio command allowing them to take off - huge airplanes that have zero stealth capability. The fact that the Americans did not bother to send strikers to intercept does not mean they were undetected.

In fact if that Russian General is right he should be fired for making such dangerous moves - nuclear missile capable aircraft should not be flown like this trying to be undetected as it would increase chances of accidental nuclear war. This is probably the most favourite exit strategy of Putin.

Yes, no you're right, the US wouldn't intercept an unidentified aircraft entering it's airspace presumably at high speed. Maybe they're saving on the Fuel costs.
