The USA. Which just goes to show that the USofA'ian majority brand of Christianity should be banned.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation! -
so you will only ban a certain brand of a weapon of mass destruction (of free thinking)? Why not get id of all of them?Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostThe USA. That largely depends on the definition of faith. It's defined by Dawkins, IIRC, to be belief in something without evidence. Whereby it would be an oxymoron. But, again, I doubt most Christians would agree with that definition.Originally posted by sasguru View PostI'm sorry, but that is an oxymoron.
Dictionary.com defines it as:
1. confidence or trust in a person or thing: faith in another's ability.
2. belief that is not based on proof: He had faith that the hypothesis would be substantiated by fact.
3. belief in God or in the doctrines or teachings of religion: the firm faith of the Pilgrims.
4. belief in anything, as a code of ethics, standards of merit, etc.: to be of the same faith with someone concerning honesty.
5. a system of religious belief: the Christian faith; the Jewish faith.
6. the obligation of loyalty or fidelity to a person, promise, engagement, etc.: Failure to appear would be breaking faith.
7. the observance of this obligation; fidelity to one's promise, oath, allegiance, etc.: He was the only one who proved his faith during our recent troubles.
8. Christian Theology. the trust in God and in His promises as made through Christ and the Scriptures by which humans are justified or saved.
It may not be scientific, but I'd hesitate to say it's irrational.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment

I wouldn't ban any. Historically, it's been shown not to work. And it simply leads to more oppression. Stalin and Mao tried it, and there are now more Christians in China than members of the communist party, by the communist party's own admission.Originally posted by ThomasSoerensen View Postso you will only ban a certain brand of a weapon of mass destruction (of free thinking)? But even if USAofA'ian Christianity was a WoMD, that doesn't mean that all brands are.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment

If Christians don't agree with that definition then presumably they think they have evidence for their faith.
I have yet to see the slightest shred of any such evidence.Hard Brexit now!

another one for the believers:
how can it be that there are multiple "Only true god"?
there is Christian God and Muslim God, right? Howdoes that little thing work.
or perhaps you chose to not believe in that part as well?"Condoms should come with a free pack of earplugs."Comment

Fine, but you've gone on a massive tangent because that wasn't what was WG said:Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostThe argument that religion is evil because people have done evil thing in its name is puerile.

You could, for example, look at the work people do, and their religious beliefs. So, if you found that Jedi knights are over-represented among those who work for charities, as nurses, or in low paid, thankless, vocational jobs, it would be safe to conclude that Jedi knights are more likely to persue activities that benefit society than non-Jedi knights. You could even distinguish between nominal Jedi knights, and those who overthrow dark emporers every sunday and one evening a week."Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.
