Indeed. I'm not sure Buddhism is a religion per se.
I've read a fair bit and it does seem more like a manual for coping with life. More intelligent than the average religion anyway.

But still has had killings, etc. done in its name. Odd, given its reputation in the west, but true.

I think it does. My mother was an agnostic RE teacher. She taught about all the major world religions. But in accordance with government guidelines, concentrated on the majority (at least historically) one in the UK.

We used to have to pray every morning at school assembly in primary school (does anyone else remember doing this), as well as being taught Christianity up to second year secondary school. I didn't give praying a thought at the time, was too young. At least I think we had to pray, certainly sing.

I do. That's why I know all those old hymns. I found the whole thing totally frantically boring, so was glad when I started at a theosophically founded private school.
