Now that would be a twist! Ferret can have his brain back when the baby starts sleeping for more than two hours at any one go

An iPod shouldn't need any drivers to be installed - it's a standard USB device that will either appear as a storage device or, if its preferred software (iTunes) is installed, will start that software when plugged in. The benefit of using iTunes is that it will allow you to organise things in the way that allows the iPod to offer the best use of files through its own internal software.

          It should go something like:
          1. Install iTunes.
          2. Import existing music/audio files into iTunes (I haven't used it on Windows in ages, but I think "File > Import..." should get you there). IIRC, iTunes will actually offer to go scurrying around your system, trying to find all the files it thinks you might want it to manage - it does a good job of this, but you can also use the "Import..." mechanism afterwards to bring in anything it might have missed.
          3. Plug in iPod.
          4. The default behaviour is then to offer to copy everything to the iPod. (This can be changed, if necessary.)
          5. The iPod is then pretty much intuitive - the only reason it took me about two minutes to learn to use my first one is that, being a geek, I kept on buggering about with it at every step, trying to see if I could trip it up (I couldn't).

Please post back here, or PM me, if it's still not working for you. I'm on the bench at the moment, and would be more than happy to spend some of my free time ensuring that your Dad gets access to the music and audiobooks he likes whilst in hospital - and indeed ensuring that your Mum can do this for him, for it is such care and consideration as this that is the foundation of a lasting marriage.

ASIDE: Perhaps your parents may henceforward serve as exemplars to those who post on here solely with the attitude of "I'm a bit bored with my missus, how can I make sure she doesn't get to spend all of my cash on raising the kids", when they should be asking "How can I understand that a marriage is for life, not just for as long as she looks good in a bikini for the two weeks we spend on holiday each year".

Marriage means being in your sixties or seventies and wondering what more you can do for your partner whilst they're in hospital than bringing a clean pair of pyjamas and a tangerine. (Where's the "Life is stern and life is earnest" smiley when you need it?)

milan, your problem is being caused by an energy imbalance. You should re-arrange the furniture in the room so the ch'i can properly flow.

                morning all,

first all, to the cheeky kents, less of it.

Nick, thanks for the feedback, sorry to hear you are on the bench.

Defo their pc is about 5 years old, I was wondering to buy them a laptop and see if that solved the problem. This is the .Net approach you see, if it does not work, throw money at it.

Anyway, I'll check what o/s it is continue trying to find a driver and see what happens.

                From searching google for:

download usb driver for ipod windows

this problem seems to be very common

typical of hobbyist technologies, safest surely will be to get the old chap a portal cd player.

                thanks,

                Milan.

                  Try Gina Ford
                  else
                  Try vodka in the bottle.

milan, you haven't mentioned but have you installed iTunes? Or if for some reason you don't want to install iTunes, is the driver on the CD?
