In that case, we're in total agreement!Originally posted by Xenophon View PostOh no, now I feel bad. C'mon PSB - we're just chatting. I know I am more 'red kneck' that many and yes I do ignore the 'grey' areas in favour of a clearer, simpler, 'black and white' world.
I guess I'd get to my limit as to when I can take action against someone pretty quickly, but not without a warning or two (a la the old bill). I just really hate the thought of any compassion for someone who purposefully steps into someone's home. I agree they can't just be executed, but they had better leave pretty damn quick in my opinion.
It's interesting to find someone with actual knowledge of the Martin case - I have read lots about it in the press and on t'internet, but we all know that journos can't always be trusted.
I thought this was a reasonably balanced piece - but you may feel differently of course:

You seem to be missing the point. This is not about the guy being in danger - this was the least of his worries.Originally posted by The Lone Gunman View PostI have said all along that this was not the case for Martin and as you know the case so well you may be able to correct my understanding of his situation. I do not believe Martin could ever have been in danger given the situation he had engineered and as you said yourself
Imagine yourself living in one of the most deprived housing estates in the UK. Picture a scene of kids drinking in your garden late at night, peering through your windows. You come home from work every day to discover another item of your property stolen or smashed up. Imagine this happening several times a month over the last 5 years. None of the authorities are able or willing to take any action for whatever reason.
What exactly would you do to stop the above things happening and provide yourself with the quality of life we all expect as standard?Comment

In that situation how is shooting someone to death going to help. And how much longer do you think you will live before someone decides it is you that must die?Originally posted by chicane View PostYou seem to be missing the point. You've lost me? I've been talking about my views on what is and isn't allowable when you are broken into. I haven't been talking about the Tony Martin case.Originally posted by The Lone Gunman View PostOh Xen, you are contradicting yourself into a corner here!
I understand both of Martins burglars were running away when he shot them, one was actualy in the grounds and not the house.Rule #76: No excuses. Play like a champion.Comment

Because they were "leaving pretty damn quick" as you put it when he shot them, a point at which you state they should not be sumarily executed, yet you support him shooting them.Originally posted by Xenophon View PostWhere is the contradiction?I am not qualified to give the above advice!

Oh sorry, I was pointing out how your opinion on defending your property was at odds with your support for Martin earlier.Originally posted by Xenophon View PostYou've lost me? Aha. I see.Originally posted by The Lone Gunman View PostBecause they were "leaving pretty damn quick" as you put it when he shot them, a point at which you state they should not be sumarily executed, yet you support him shooting them.
My view on them legging it (and this is a comment on the TM case solely) is:
Too little too late.
Yes - I believe, in the TM case, he was justified in shooting them at that stage. I don't expect that view to be shared by many, but I am happy with it.

Apology accepted.Originally posted by The Lone Gunman View PostOh sorry, I was pointing out how your opinion on defending your property was at odds with your support for Martin earlier.
It is not at odds. They hadn't just stumbled onto his property by mistake and were innocently wandering his grounds to try to get off them. They had terrorised that man for months.
Clear now?Rule #76: No excuses. Play like a champion.Comment
