It's absolutely fine for an Englishman to wear or show his own flag anywhere he likes, doubly so when he's supportnig a sporting team which represents that country. It is irresponsible to fly the Union flag at a purely English sporting event, and it's equally as bad to show a St George's Cross at a purely British sporting even such as the Olympics.
