It is possible to use without becoming addicted, I've used drugs, I didn't develop an addiction though. I am sure most people start out using for fun or to numb emotional pain, they don't start out wanting a life controlling addiction.

It all depends which drugs though. Some more addictive than others.

I still expect the government to make ALL drugs legal and tax the hell out of them.

You say that as if it's a bad thing.

Anyone dabling with Crack or Heroin only has their self to blame when things go nipples up as they usually do.

The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

What worries me is that she is such an icon. Young people tend to copy their icons. I'm concerned that people like AW can make it appear cool to be an addict. Or perhaps I should be blaming the press for this image of her they like to project.

              Nipples up?

It's a slippery slope, in many cases people start using alcohol or cannabis and seek a bigger relief.

And think about it, doing it in the first place, might be an act of desperation, at least have compassion for that. Not everyone has family/friends who love them, not eveyone can cope with everyday life.

It's the trendy thing to do, that's why she does it. Maybe now it's got out of control but it's more to do with fashion than desperation.

I don't think I would worry if I had children, their understanding of what is going on/wrong with her would be my responsibility, and they would make their own choices. The condemnation of 'hopeless addicts' is what paralyses society and what gives the media such power.

Didn't Marilyn Manson say 'If you don't parent your children I will'

Fashion or fun may have been why she started (and there is a lot of argument about why certain people are drawn to substance/process addiction in the first places), I don't think that is why she continues.

                      Because prohibition worked so well.
