The media isn't helping, I somehow think her record company and her dodgy father are too busy counting the cash to care too much.

http://www.ukna.org/ this probably explains it better than I can.

And I hope one day Tony someone near you is not devstated by drugs/alcohol/gambling etc etc etc
Actually I know more about addiction than you think. The fact that I don't offer sympathy for somebody who is making money out of her addiction does not mean that I have no compassion. She has the means to get out of her addiction and I'd imagine a large number of people surrounding her - a great many addicts do not and I reserve my compassion for those poor sods and not for the likes of Amy Winehouse.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

    I preferred version 1!

You might, you don't come across as someone with any first/second-hand experience of it.

I don't think she is 'making money' out of her addiction.

I think it's hard to say Lucy, who has and hasn't had experience of it. I think you'd be suprised. Especially with alcoholism - there is still a bit of a stigma attached to it - so people are more wary of admitting they have been in stiuations where they have had to deal with addicts.

I think you can't help people who don't want to help themselves and I think thats why a lot of people have no sympathy with the likes of Amy Winehouse etc.....

I don't think the 'look at the useless/stupid/worthless addict' attitude helps either.

I agree there is a lot of stigma, but it's understanding that changes attitudes not condemnation or judgement.

It does have stigma attached to it and I can see where people who've been damaged by addiction or the addiction of their parents/partners etc do believe they need to 'get over it', in the meantime though, the idea that addicts have real choices is a myth AFAIB I think addicts change when they cannot do anything else and for someone like AW who is propped up by money it's a lot harder for her to hit the bottom.

              Well said Lucy...
Eeyore was very glad to be able to stop thinking for a little, in order to say "How do you do" in a gloomy manner to Pooh.
"And how are you?" said Winnie-the-Pooh.
Eeyore shook his head from side to side. "Not very how," he said. "I don't seem to felt at all how for a long time."

It's very trendy to do what Amy does. Sometimes I wonder if she really is an addict or whether it's just to sell records. About 10 years ago I knew a guy who wrote for Uncut magazine, he took Heroin and Crack to feel the artists pain. He thought he was cool. In reality he was physically repulsive man with ground down teeth.

The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

This thread has the all the hallmarks of one that is going to get messy.

And for that reason, I am out.

N.B. For the avoidance of doubt, I am referring to being out of the thread and not contributing further. I do not mean 'out' in terms of sexual persuasion. As I am, of course, not gay.

                      Trendy?

I have no doubt she is an addict, absolutely no doubt.
