Aye, what with the Summer Soltice having come and gone, it's all downhill from here. The days draw in quicker, and there is less sunlight for us all.

I don't know why, but when I think of all the BBQ's, concerts, parties and the like coming up in the next few months, all I can think of at the back of my mind is,"They are not going to be as much fun because it will get dark quicker".

As a permie manager a long time ago, I was the "victim" of an attempted stitch up by my boss and his (known locally as dumb and dumber) ; they wanted me to resign for various political reasons, and to cover a criminal fraud. They raised various issues, in disciplinary meetings, but never told me in advance what the issues were, despite assurances they would do so. I took notes of what was said in the meetings, and after the meetings emailed those notes to dumb and dumber who agreed they were accurate accounts of what had taken place. Through out this time, I was being advised by the HR guy who'd originally recruited me - who'd since moved on to a much higher position. He didn't like dumb and dumber either.

I took a few weeks off for "stress". During which time dumb called me to discuss end of year appraisals. This was added to my records.

When I went back to the office, I forwarded my written account, with confirmations from dumb and dumber that it was accurate, to the HR manager in my department. I was summoned to another meeting, with HR present, where they said they wanted to change my role from "team leader" to "team member" - of the same team. I said - you can't do that - that's demotion. Not allowed.

Oh yes we can, they said, you were recruited as team member, the change to team lead didn't change your grade.

No, I said, I was recruited as manager, on manager T&C.

Oh smeg, said HR. They shut down the meeting with some speed. Next thing I knew, they were offering me three months paid gardening leave, followed by six months severance pay, in exchange for my silence. Which I duly accepted, and within three weeks I was contracting, earning 2-3 times what I had done as a permie manager.



Icing on the cake. The day before I left, Dumber came into the office looking sick. It had already been decided that he'd move on to a more responsible position at HQ. It was such a shame that after appointing his successor, that the job at HQ fell through, and he found himself unemployed. I like to think that was in part due to his mishandling of me.

Oooh, well I woke up in a really good mood this morning; having had a really good nights sleep!!

Same here, 9hrs straight, the sproggs forgot the script for some reason

A day of non tired time wasting with a bit of work thrown in rather than a day of tired time wasting

I sold a house (no, really, it was a few years ago though) and my solicitor decided to be creative. Instead of paying off the mortgage on the property he just gave me my equity and paid a small sum off the mortgage, enough to keep me out of arrears for a year. He spent the rest on a Ferrari. He obviously thought that by the time they got round to chasing me he would have won the lottery and paid off the mortgage, or fleeced some other sucker and used their funds to pay off mine.

But, being a careful sort of chap, I contacted my original lender to ask them if there was anything else I needed to do. "other than paying off the mortgage you mean" they said. So I now had a mortgage on a house I no longer owned. Which was not nice.


The upside came in several parts.

1) The Law Society paid off my mortgage
2) The Solicitor's practice was closed down by the serious fraud squad
3) Two of the partners got jail time (of several years), plus an estate agent and a valuer also got done as a result of the investigation
4) My solicitor has done a runner, but is hopefully living in a tulipehole in south america (but is probably living it up under an assumed name in Spain)
