    The place I'm in appears to have a room available for the two nights at an average £137/night, but you might end up having to use the Tube.

    Looks like you're too late for the deal I got offering a Business Class King-Size room - very nice last time, too
    Double check the hotel if I were you, I think it is the same one as a friend of mine stayed in, currently undergoing large refit.

    The windows in her room were boarded over, room was like an oven.

        There are a few hotels around Southwark Bridge road (well within staggering distance of the pub and would be a cheapish cab ride to Bank - the Southwark Rose seems to be OK). Think there is also one next to the Anchor pub (might be called the Anchor ).

        It seems safe around there - at least I've taken the beer scooter home on a number of occasions and never felt worried.

          It was fine a few weeks back

          <checks Leicester Square webcams>

          Still looks fine - was this one of the rooms round the back? I go for the ones with the tall windows overlooking Leicester Square

          UPDATE: I can see two of my erstwhile colleagues having a ciggy outside the office

            There's a joke in there that Americans would find worrying...
            Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

                  sorry - it's all been a bit busy recently.

                  It's going to be a last minute decision for me i'm afraid. Depends on how much work i need to do. I'm only 10mins walk or so from Borough Markets though.

                  And i'll need to get going early as Mrs Bear is off out later.

                    Anybody else noticed that this is happening on the night of the Full Moon

                    I was viewing the deranged ranting that has characterised most of the posts in General today and realised that there must be some external force at work to get the pack raving like this... Lord knows what they'll be like tomorrow with a few beers inside them
