Contractors don't need early booking discounts

I'll probably go anyway, but a sweaty, choc-a-bloc pub in central London, nowhere near the water just doesn't quite add up somehow with the summer drinks thing... (I literally work round the corner from it, so can anyone explain to me the attraction of this particular pub?).
Hey, I'm nobody's alt. But I am Snaw and I quite like Dirty Dicks as it happens (easy Cap'n Jack).

        What was the question again?

No seriously, although a riverside location sounds idyllic and handy for smokers to sit outside, it'll be getting dark by the time we're settling in, and probably pissing down with rain. Also Kew and Gunnersbury are a bit off the beaten track for most. I like the sound of "grimy and gritty", although "v v busy" is a slight negative.

Friday would be best for me, but thursday's also fine and more handy for those who travel away from London on friday evening. I wouldn't fancy a tuesday or something though.

        P.S. I voted too.

Dirty Dicks won't be that busy. Like most city places the throng is starting to thin out by about 7.30 or 8.00 as people make their way home.

The only time I've been drinking around the City on a Friday evening (a friend who does hideous things to databases took me on a guided tour when I was down for a conference the other year) it was basically What Tex Said - nowhere was amazingly busy when we started at around 7pm. By 11pm it was pretty quiet.

As some, but not all, will want to keep on going, it might be an idea to specify a cut-off time for DD's, at which point the action can move nearer the West End for an hour or so (don't be scared CM, I'll shove you down the escalator) to ultimately disperse in a drunken haze of those who want to go clubbing in Camden, and those who want to be reasonably central for hotels, last trains home, etc.

            Just my tuppence

Ok - I haven't heard back from the moderators so I'm going to risk a flaming by calling the vote:

We have a number of aliases in the top spot, Dirty Dick's, which isn't exactly 'cricket', folks.

Therefore, the leading destination (with most 'principle' IDs) is the Market Porter, so that is our destination for the CUK summer drinks.

I would advise anyone booking hotels to choose somewhere central, as we're likely to move on from the Porter, and it's central anyway. CM, my suggestion would be the Hilton in Islington. Given it's only 5 stops away on the tube, and it's a likely stopping point.

So, it's the Market Porter, July 18th, at whatever time you can make it (I'll probably be there by 4pm), and if you're coming much later (ie, after 8pm), PM to get in touch.

Hope that suits most of you, please rsvp (by July 11th) to the PM you'll receive today to confirm numbers, and I'll see about booking tables and such.

Fior a cheaper and less hassle option, how about each individual heads to their local offie, grabs a few tinnies, and we meet on Teamspeak (web cams optional of course) ?
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
