Turn up for Jury Duty? Claim on your insurance? Apply for a deferral? Pretend you never got the letter?

I tried to get out of it when I was called - working in Bristol, living in East Lancashire, project go-live at that time, only person who knew how it worked....

And I still didn't get out of it.

Not a chance - it's random, innit?? Once you get there, the jury pool is picked at random, then the 12 good men and true are picked from a shuffled list of names. So at what point would your appearance come into it?

        Reminds me of a joke:

Fred Cartwright, the World's greatest conman and on trial for a multi-million pound fraud, was released from the Old Bailey today after sending the Judge down for 3 years.

Write them a letter, tell them your wife/girlfriend is heavily pregnant. Thats what I did when I got called up a few weeks back

Wrote a long rambling letter about how she was heavily pregnant (which she is) and how the baby was due at the exact time my jury duty was scheduled to start (which isn't quite true) and that I felt I wouldn't be able to give this important civic duty the attention it rightly deserved as I would be worried about missing the birth of my first child (its my third)

Cherry on the cake was the bit about if they wanted further proof, I would be happy to provide a doctor's letter or pictures of the last scan. Virtually dared them question it. They didn't, just got a one line letter back saying I was excused temporarily and I may be recalled again in the future. The words "cross" "bridge" and "get to it" spring to mind.

Not sure how this will work for the ladies in this situation though.

            "No, feet"

If you are working in any capacity on any role which involves the legal system, you are excused jury service by default.

Is your role working in such a position?

BB - have you got a link to any policy that backs that up?

I do a bit of work on a system that is used by the CPS and would love to use that old chestnut.

I think that they have changed the rules - lawyers and judges can be called these days, so I suspect that this is no longer the case.

The law changed in April 2004 - linky.

Is it true that there is a crime on the live system, that was put on in test by a developer and never removed, 'bog-woggling' I think it was.

thats what a dev told me a few years ago anyways.
